![]() Photorejuvenation (IPL)
Photodamage causes skin to wrinkle, slacken, and become blotchy and hyperpigmented. It is the cumulative result of excessive exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays. We use Intense Pulsed Light technology to rejuvenate aging and photodamaged skin. Lasers typically have one specific wavelength to treat just one color. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) has many wavelengths that are emitted simultaneously, which allows us to treat several skin conditions simultaneously, including rosacea, broken blood vessels, capillaries, diffuse redness of the face, or "red neck", as well as melasma, sun spots, freckles, and general hyperpigmentation. There is virtually no down time and the procedure is very safe. Usually a series of at least 3-4 treatments will be needed for optimal results.
Photodynamic therapy, also called PDT, is another safe and effective method for treating mild to moderate photodamage on the face, neck, chest, and hands, and employs the application of a photosensitizing chemical to the skin several hours prior to the light therapy. It causes more inflammation after treatment, but yields faster improvement, which is generally seen at one week after treatment. See before/after photos: Click thumbnails for a closer look.
